Developing your own online gambling strategy...and making sure it really works
There is no such thing as the "definitive guide to
gambling", and whole books have been devoted to particular gambling
approaches and gaming systems. Some of these books deal with honing
one's intuition, others boil down to simple probability calculations.
Devising one's personal strategy is a combination of the two: you
need to understand the probabilities, but you also need to develop your natural
senses, be attuned to the psychology of your opponents and learn from
experience. Even more so when playing in online casinos.
The most interesting strategy can easily be rendered absolutely useless at the
mercy of small differences in game rules between land and online casino or, by
way of example, better or worse performance of Random Number Generators. In
Baccarat, many of the well known "winning" strategies would not work
at some online casinos because the cards are returned to the shoe and the shoe
is reshuffled every round. Be very wary of strategies that claim to be 100%
perfect. They don't exist! In fact, there's a strong argument to suggest
that the best gambling strategy is to not believe in anyone elses' gambling
strategy.
So how do you choose a strategy or a series of
strategies? Well, it's a very personal choice, and rather than advise you
what to do, here are some pointers on what NOT to do and which strategies to
avoid.
Putting together a playing strategy in an online casino environment
If you want to get serious about putting together a playing strategy in an
online casino, you need luck, patience and an understanding of probabilities and
things like RNG dispersion. Some people go as far as applying various mystic theories
and ideologies to their gambling ideas. The online environment is ideal to test
out your gaming strategies because of the free test games on offer.
Pointers to consider when developing your online casino strategies
Baccarat- in Baccarat the only decisions that are given to the players are
bets and even those are very limited. There are various statistical systems that
try to manipulate the bets to create probable situations, but eventually most
players consider that the house only commissions the banker bets and see it as a
real incentive to give the banker hand priority. A very interesting observation
can be made here: the fact that the banker bets are commissioned also diminishes
the bet value of the banker hand a little bit, leaving you to guess whether
would the odds fit. It's an unexpected application of so called Heisenberg's
effect that comes from in physics. We leave it as an exercise to the reader to
decide for themselves whether this approach is right for them or not.
Dice games- simple probability
calculations show that "7" is the easiest number to role with two
dice. Compare that to the craps rules and the special numbers...you'll be
delighted by what you discover!
Blackjack - there are a variety of version of the Blackjack
game. Some basic strategies apply to all variants and others only apply to
one game type. If you have an Ace and a 10, most people would suggest that
you double down. However, many people are wrong in believing that the
"dealer always stands on 17" rule is a good reason for a player to
regard 17 as a breaking point for doubling down. Sometimes you will just feel
that the next card coming is four! This is not one of the hard and fast rules of
playing Blackjack!
Roulette- Because roulette slots are organized in
a mathematically distributed sequence, such that all numbers, colours and
bets have a fair chance. As such, there is no such thing as
"roulette system". It bears mentioning, though, that there are
some "alternative" approaches to Blackjack!
An interesting example is that of the Martingale systems that offer to
compensate players for lost bets by proportionally raising the odds.
In actual fact, this is not even worth a moment's consideration because the
casinos deliberately impose upper bet limits on roulette tables. In effect,
online casinos are not giving you even the slightest bit of advantage. But
the games are intrinsically fair.
These few quite logical observations might not have been very obvious to the
average bettor. But it is this very unpredicability that gives online
casino games their soul, that make them so compelling.
Happy strategising!
